Identifying Animals

Koh Chang Nature – Species Identification Sources

Xenocatantops Grasshopper Nymph-JMSo you’ve got a great Koh Chang wildlife photo. Great. If you can let us have it to add to our species listings then that’s brilliant. But if you can tell us what it is too that’s perfect. The biggest task of this project is doing proper and precise species identification. We’re having some great successes, largely through the huge efforts of David Vinot, to whom my thanks go again. But if you can help out and send us identification as well then that would be brilliant.

In the course of this research we’ve unearthed some excellent sources of animal images to use to compare and identify species. There’s some amazing stuff out there and it is fascinating just looking through some of the sites. So here below we provide a list of good animal identification sources. We’ll keep adding to it as we find more sources.

What we’re looking for is the Latin name. Often animals have several popular names but just one latin name – if we can get to that then it is a precise identification.
